What are Photograms?
A photogram is a photographic image that is made with the use of photo-sensitive material such a photographic paper and light exposure. It works by placing objects directly onto the chosen surface and then exposing to light usually with the use of an enlarger for this type of work. This then makes a negative shadow that varies in tone depending on the transparency of the objects used. Parts of the surface that have not been exposed to light appear white and with transparent or semi-transparent objects appearing grey.
we experimented with photograms in the dark room. The artist also used a wide lens in order.

Man Ray
Image 1: The first picture has a lot of objects on it there are some shades of grey and white. I think that if i did not add as much pictures you could see more tones and shadows. |
Image 2: I prefer the second pictures because there is less objects and dark places. the different shapes and sizes makes each object more defined. |
